Santa Monica College offensive line coach David Banuelos was named the new head coach of Compton College football program, yesterday.
Banuelos has spent the last three seasons on the Corsairs sideline helping the team win back-to-back conference titles, an accomplishment not done in 30 previous years. One of his players, Moldova-born offensive tackle Alexandru Ceachir, earned a scholarship to UCLA in 2011.
This will not be the first time the St. Bernard alum has been in charge of a program. Banuelos had two stints as head coach at Pierce College in 1999-2000 and 2002-05. He has also been an offensive coordinator at LA Southwest, LA Valley and Santa Monica College.
The desire to lead his own team was too much for Banuelos to pass up.
