JC Football: Santa Monica College’s DL Marcus Manley commits to Cal

Santa Monica College defensive lineman Marcus Manley has committed to Cal after taking an official visit to the campus last week, according to his head coach Gifford Lindheim.

Manley was planning on taking a trip to BYU this week before committing with the Bears. He is expect to sign in February and will transfer in the fall.

“Marcus is a stud. Hardworking, explosive and high energy” said Lindheim about Manley earlier this month. “He also has a knack for blocking PAT’s and field goals.”

The 6’2, 279 pound freshman from Fairfax High had 35 tackles, and a blocked field goal this year for the Corsairs.

Manley was named to the Region V All-California team by the California Community College Coaches Association and the JC Athletic Bureau earlier this week.

JC Football: SMC’s Manley and Wright add more schools for official visits

Santa Monica College defensive lineman Marcus Manley has added another Division I school for an official visit and cornerback Rico Wright will head on his first of two scheduled trips, according to head coach Gifford Lindheim.

Manely, who already has a trip to Berkeley scheduled for Thursday, will make a visit to the BYU as well.

Sophomore Rico Wright will leave to Morehouse College tomorrow and will take a trip to Division I-AA Eastern Illinois next week.

Santa Monica College defensive lineman Marcus Manley is set to take an official visit to Cal on January 25th, according his head coach Gifford Lindheim.

The 6’2, 279 lbs freshman from Fairfax High had 35 tackles, a fumble recovery and blocked field goal this year for the Corsairs.

Manley was named to the Region V All-California team by the California Community College Coaches Association and the JC Athletic Bureau earlier this week.

Santa Monica College finished 9-2 and won the Pacific Conference for the second straight year.

Santa Monica College and West LA College have 21 football players selected to All-Pacific Conference Team

Twenty-one Santa Monica and West LA College football players were named to the All-Pacific Conference team, the Los Angeles Sports Journal has learned exclusively.

Earlier in the week, the Sports Journal broke the news that SMC quarterback Alfonso Medina and defensive back Qujuan Floyd were announced as the conference’s offensive and defensive players of the year.

Among the players earning honors were Ralph Gordon, a Westchester High graduate, who was named twice on first team All-League at both wide receiver and as an all-purpose player for the Corsairs. He had 744 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns on the season.

Fellow wide receiver Reggie Mitchell (Hamilton High) earned a spot on the first team along with running back Myles Johnson (Carson High) who became the first Corsair to pass the 1,000 yard mark in 12 years.

Defensive lineman Kaylin Ayers was the only West LA College player to named as a first team selection. Ayers finished with 61 tackles and a league-leading eight sacks for the Wildcats.
