When Will Rosenthal’s three-pointer late in the second quarter gave Malibu a one-point lead, it seemed that No. 2 seed Brentwood could be sent home in a major upset in the opening round of the Division 4A playoffs.
Then the Eagles woke up from the shock with a late first half run and a dominating third quarter on their way to a 72-45 victory.
Brentwood defense got back to basics by shutting down the Malibu after halftime by allowing only a single basket in the third quarter.
Junior guard Tra Holder had eight points during that span most of it coming from transition baskets and offensive rebounds and Leland King scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second half as the Eagles pushed a five-point halftime advantage into a runaway lead.
