For the first three periods against King-Drew, Crossroads was bullied and dominated throughout the contest. But a switch to smaller lineup sparked a surge in the fourth as Crossroads rallied for a 63-54 victory in the first day of pool play in the St. Monica Tournament.
King-Drew led the entire game and had a 47-40 advantage at the end of the third period. However, it was a switch to a smaller lineup that sparked a 8-2 rally before a Jake Fenster jumper at the 3:30 mark gave the Roadrunners the lead at 50-49.
Nick Reese led the way for Westchester with 14 points and Tyler Batiste had ten points and three steals in an 84-36 blowout victory over Rancho Christian at the Redondo Tournament.
The Comets set the tone early in their season opener with a full court defense that made it difficult for the Eagles guards to get across the half-court line. Rancho Christian was forced into numerous bad passes and Westchester took advantage with nine steals in the first half. The rotation of a new linuep every few minutes, wore down the Eagles.
USC-Commit Courtney Jaco had 23 points and Jordan Canada added 13 more as Windward dominated La Salle during the second day of the Palisades girls basketball tournament. The Wildcats will face Chaminade on Thursday night, who had three players in double digits in a 73-15 victory over Burbank.
In the game of the night, it was the youngsters that took over the contest between Taft and Palisades. Freshman Autumn Naylor 21 points for the Toreadors was enough to get hold off Kylie Mizushima 15 points and freshman Hydeia Duronslet 14 points for the host Dolphins.
