JC Basketball: St. Monica’s Jung takes assistant position at West LA College

St. Monica boys basketball head coach Khi-Min Jung resigned last week to take an assistant coach job at West Los Angeles College under recently hired Chris Ackers.

In his three seasons at the Santa Monica Catholic school, Jung finished with an overall record of 45-39 and one playoff appearance according to MaxPreps.com.

St. Monica Tourney Roundup: Crossroads fourth quarter surge leads them to victory

For the first three periods against King-Drew, Crossroads was bullied and dominated throughout the contest. But a switch to smaller lineup sparked a surge in the fourth as Crossroads rallied for a 63-54 victory in the first day of pool play in the St. Monica Tournament.

King-Drew led the entire game and had a 47-40 advantage at the end of the third period. However, it was a switch to a smaller lineup that sparked a 8-2 rally before a Jake Fenster jumper at the 3:30 mark gave the Roadrunners the lead at 50-49.

Westchester has an easy time in their season opening win over Rancho Christian

Nick Reese led the way for Westchester with 14 points and Tyler Batiste had ten points and three steals in an 84-36 blowout victory over Rancho Christian at the Redondo Tournament.

The Comets set the tone early in their season opener with a full court defense that made it difficult for the Eagles guards to get across the half-court line. Rancho Christian was forced into numerous bad passes and Westchester took advantage with nine steals in the first half. The rotation of a new linuep every few minutes, wore down the Eagles.

Girls Basketball: Jaco’s 23 points leads Windward over La Salle at the Palisades Tourney

USC-Commit Courtney Jaco had 23 points and Jordan Canada added 13 more as Windward dominated La Salle during the second day of the Palisades girls basketball tournament. The Wildcats will face Chaminade on Thursday night, who had three players in double digits in a 73-15 victory over Burbank.

In the game of the night, it was the youngsters that took over the contest between Taft and Palisades. Freshman Autumn Naylor 21 points for the Toreadors was enough to get hold off Kylie Mizushima 15 points and freshman Hydeia Duronslet 14 points for the host Dolphins.

Boys Basketball: St. Monica’s eight-team tournament tips off today

St. Monica’s boy’s basketball tournament is set to start today when San Diego Vista takes on the host Mariners at 3:30 p.m. The eight-team four-day tournament features four local westside teams with Crossroads, LA University, and Malibu participating in addition to St. Monica.

Girls Basketball: Inglewood City of Champions tourney results – Day one

Westside teams Brentwood, St Bernard, Culver City, and Venice took part in the play-in games of the Inglewood City of Champions tournament. Contests were played at the Brentwood School, Inglewood High, St. Bernard and St. Mary.
