SMC Swimmer Mathlouthi Places 30th at the Olympics
Santa Monica College swimmer Ahmed Mathlouthi placed 30th in the 200 meter freestyle yesterday at the Olympic Games in London. Representing his home country of Tunisia, Mathlouhi finished 6th in his trial heat with a time of 1:49.68 nearly two seconds from qualifying for the semifinal round.
He was the first SMC swimmer to compete in the Olympics since four-time gold medalist Lenny Krayzelburg qualified in thee 100 meter backstroke for the 2004 games in Athens.
SMC Swimmer Ahmed Mathlouthi Named State Athlete of the Year
The California Community College Sports Information Association has selected freshman swimmer Ahmed Mathlouthi of Santa Monica College as the inaugural CCCSIA Men’s Athlete of the Year for the 2011-2012 sports season.
Mathlouthi’s feats at the CCCAA state championship meet put him in an elite category.
