Girls Basketball Roundup: Grudy’s free throw saves Notre Dame Academy
Danya Grundy made a free throw in the final moments of the game to help Notre Dame Academy hang on to a 58-57 victory over Marymount in Sunshine League play.
The Regal Gryphons nearly saw there 13-point third quarter lead evaporate as Marymount tied the game at 57, before Grundy was sent to the free throw line with two seconds left.
The senior missed the first one but hit the crucial second attempt for the upset win.
Notre Dame Academy evens their record to 7-7 and is 2-1 in league.
Marymount falls to 9-7 and 1-1 in league. The loss is the Sailors’ third-straight.
In the Del Rey League…
St. Bernard 81, Bishop Montgomery 72
Bishop Montgomery held a 57-56 lead at the end of the third quarter, but Michelle Curry scored eight of her 20 points in the final period of play to help St. Bernard remain undefeated in league.
Chyanne Butler finished with 25 points for the Vikings (15-5, 3-0)
Bishop Montgomery’s (17-4, 1-1) Sophia Song led all scorers with 29 points.
In the Camino Real League….
St. Monica 69, Mary Star of the Sea 16
Crystal Casey had a career-high 10 points as St Monica jumped out to a 32-2 lead after the end of the first quarter in a rout of Mary Star of Heart. The Stars (1-9, 0-2) did not crack the double figure mark until the third quarter.
Melissa Maragnes led the Mariners with 14 points on seven-of-seven shooting in only 12 minutes. Briana Harris had seven points, seven assists and six rebounds in limited action.
Liyah Lewis finished with 9 points as all 12 players on the Mariners (16-4, 2-1) scored in the game.
