Boys Basketball: Culver City unable to handle Alemany’s pressure in blowout loss
Isaac Girley had 14 points and Chris Edwards added nine points and two steals for Culver City in a 68-47 losing effort to Alemany losing 68-47 at the Santa Monica tournament.
The Centaurs kept it close in the first quarter trailing by only five, but the full-court defense of Alemany helped the Indians outscoring their opponent 30-14 in the second quarter and frustrated the Centaurs with their pressure.
The intensity of the defense caused trouble for Culver City to get into offensive sets leading to easy scoring chances for Alemany. In one sequence the Indians forced four straight turnovers to go on an 8-0 run as Alemany scored 30 points in the second quarter to end the half with a 41-20 lead.
Guards Rashann Henderson, Brandon Boyd and Benny Boatwright all ended the game in double figures for Alemany. Boatwright led the Indians with 16 points, Henderson had 13 points and Boyd had 10 points.
Culver City’s next game is against Corona Del Mar on Thursday at 5 p.m. Alemany will play West Ranch.
